Elcon Helping Hand (EHH) NPC was established in July 2012 with a clear vision: to enhance the livelihoods of previously disadvantaged individuals living with disabilities. Over the years, EHH has implemented numerous projects to support both people with disabilities and those in need. These initiatives focus on humanitarian aid, sports development, school curriculum support, healthcare, training and development, and infrastructure assistance. To date, more than 1,238 individuals have benefited from these programmes.
One of the most pressing challenges remains food security and nutrition for institutions and individuals with disabilities. Recognizing this need, EHH launched an agricultural programme aimed at providing food to disabled individuals while also generating income through the sale of produce to local nurseries. Since 2016, the Groenmyn Nursery has been a sustainable, disability-operated initiative managed in partnership with the Northern Cape Mental Health NPO. The nursery employs 21 individuals with disabilities, all of whom reside on-site. Its operations include seedling cultivation, retail nursery and depot management, and greenhouse maintenance. Through this initiative, individuals receive training, skills development, empowerment, and entrepreneurial support to help them enter the labour market.
