The Letsatsi Borutho Trust has already invested R3 million in bursaries to 26 students from its communities, to pursue their dreams. It has committed a further R1.8 million in bursaries in 2022 which is managed by Study Trust. Its always encouraging to hear feedback from students we invest in. This is Junaid’s story…
“From a young age, I had a passion for technology, and it was my dream to become an engineer. As a kid, I would take apart electronic and mechanical toys and devices to see what
was inside, and I was so fascinated by these electrical circuits and components inside these items because they looked so complex and well-structured.
The way electricity is stored and transmitted and how it flows from one point to another really amazed me. I think a career in electrical engineering will help me better understand these complex systems, and to one day build and design them would be a great accomplishment. It would be my dream to make communities affected by disasters safer and to find cures for diseases, as well as to ensure that people in remote areas have access to food, clean energy, and water. As a leader, I teach and mentor high school kids math’s, physics, and engineering-related subjects.
My dad is one of my biggest inspirations in life. I am so fortunate to have such an extremely hardworking and caring man as my backbone. I always count on him for a lift when I need one. He understands everything that I go through. I made him proud being here at UCT and making my dream come true. I am a second-year electrical engineering student at the University of Cape Town. I am friendly, helpful, and respectful and have a good sense of humor. I can work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.
Consistency is one of my strongest values and I am good at being attentive when it comes to problem solving. I am also an excellent team worker and can take direction from all levels and build good working relationships with all colleagues”
