Mazingane Entertainment was established in 2019 with the aim of empowering upcoming artists in Ritchie and surrounding areas. The director, Dorothy Mazingane, is a well-known artist in the music industry and has collaborated with many well-known artists as far as Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. She says that substance abuse among the youth is a huge concern because of unemployment. This led her to start the company. She wants to empower young people, restore their dignity, develop them into successful artists, and build a responsible society through arts.
Traditional, gospel, reggae, and western music are some of the types of music Mazingane focuses on to ensure that everyone is catered for. It hosts regular gospel shows to ensure that upcoming artists are being recognised and promoted. During the busy summer months, artists are invited to travel around to towns in the Northern Cape, where they are exposed to a broader audience. Apart from promoting artists, focus is also placed on developing their business skills by hosting weekly meetings to debate and discuss challenges faced within the music industry.
With the support of the Letsatsi Borutho Trust, the company has developed three artists from Ritchie who formed part of recording the single “It Is Well” and the music video “Inyembezi”. Inyembezi was successfully launched on 13th March 2022 at the Northern Cape Theatre. All the hard work has paid off for Mazingane, who has now been nominated for the best songwriter and music video at the annual Ukhonukamva National Gospel Music Awards to be hosted in Cape Town.
The Letsatsi Borutho Trust supported Mazingane Entertainment with a grant of R40,000.
Mazingane needs your vote to bring the trophy back to Ritchie. Let’s get behind our talented artists and support their dreams.
